Fix Meta vs Shopify Attribution and Trust Your ROAS Again

Deduplicated Pixel and Conversions API, clean GA4 and one revenue view based on real Shopify orders, so budget decisions stop being guesses.

Quick answer

Meta usually shows more purchases than Shopify because it counts attributed conversions, including view-through and modelled ones, while Shopify counts actual orders. Duplicate Pixel installs and Conversions API events without deduplication widen the gap. We clean up tracking, use Shopify as revenue truth and feed real value back to your ad platforms.

  • Stack: Meta CAPI, GA4, GTM, Shopify
  • Tracking fix: from $325
  • Ads: from $1,050/month

Sound familiar?

A typical, illustrative scenario. Not a client story.

  • Ads Manager reports more purchases than Shopify recorded for the same day.

  • The Pixel was installed by an app, by the theme and again in GTM, and nobody is sure which one fires.

  • Conversions API was switched on, and reported purchases jumped overnight.

  • Finance trusts Shopify, marketing trusts Meta, and budget meetings go in circles.

What each platform counts

The numbers differ because they answer different questions.

Meta’s own guidance says that when the same event is sent by both the Pixel and the Conversions API, they must share a matching event name and event ID, or they may be counted twice.

The tracking system we build

  1. 1CaptureMeta Pixel (one install) · GTM · Consent mode. One browser source, respecting consent.
  2. 2Server eventsConversions API · Shared event_id · Server-side GTM (where volume justifies it). Deduplicated with the Pixel.
  3. 3Revenue truthShopify orders · Refunds · Currency & time zone aligned. The ledger everything is checked against.
  4. 4Feedback to adsPurchase value · CRM / offline conversions · LTV audiences. Platforms optimise on real customers.
  5. 5One viewBlended revenue vs spend · GA4 · Weekly dashboard. One weekly number for budget decisions.

Illustrative data flow. Exact setup depends on your store, consent and volume.

Proof: $10M+ in paid media

Our multi-brand paid-media programme, with brands including Daraz, The Luxury Closet and Gulf Air Holidays, started from the same problem: “attribution was unclear, and CRM was not connected to ad platforms.” The case study reports:

  • $10M+

in cumulative paid media spend managed across Meta and Google

  • 5–10x ROAS

sustained consistently across campaigns, not as a peak result, but as an operational baseline

Read the case study. Every account is different; we don’t promise a ROAS figure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Meta counts purchases it attributes to your ads within its attribution window, including view-through and modelled conversions. Shopify counts actual orders. Duplicate Pixel installs, Conversions API events without a shared event ID, and time-zone or currency differences make the gap bigger.
Send each purchase from the browser Pixel and from the server with the same event name and the same event ID, and make sure only one Pixel source is active. We check this in Meta’s Events Manager and against Shopify orders.
Use Shopify for revenue, Meta for optimising campaigns, and a blended view of total revenue against total spend for budget decisions. We build that weekly view for you.
Not always. A clean Pixel plus deduplicated Conversions API fixes most problems. Server-side tracking is part of Ad Campaigns Scale; a standalone server-side build is quoted after a free discovery call.
Clean data helps ad platforms optimise on real purchases and helps you move budget to what works, but we don’t promise a ROAS figure. We report honestly on spend and real revenue.
A GA4 + GTM tracking fix is from $325. Ad Campaigns Growth, with CRM/offline conversions, is from $1,050/month or 12% of ad spend, whichever is higher, + $700 setup. Scale, with server-side tracking, is from $2,100/month or 10% of ad spend, whichever is higher, + $1,050 setup.
